Description
Clay doll Dogu Jomon eraDescription
It has been in my house for several decades. I don't know when or how I got it.
I left it in a room where I don't usually use it, but it didn't get covered with dust.
The color of the surface is uneven, with some blackish and some reddish, and I think it was made using the same firing method as actual clay figurines.
There are cracks in some places (photos 8 and 10), but they are not cracks.
Since it is a clay figurine, it is hard to tell if the old look is from the original or from aging.
Height 24cm

Most of the dogū have been found in eastern Japan and it is rare to find one in western Japan. The purpose of the dogū remains unknown and should not be confused with the clay haniwa funerary objects of the Kofun period (250 – 538 CE).
